Time to Take Stock

As 2014 draws to a close its time to take stock (literally) and make plans for the New Year
I'm off to a good start as I have moved my studio downstairs to free up my spare bedroom for my son

The old room with the fitted cupboards and wardrobes meant that I could hide everything away but now I have moved it all it's obvious that I have to have a clearout and I've been filling bin liners for days now!

The Christmas fairs reduced my stock by quite a bit but there are still several items left so I'm starting with a closing down sale for one of my Etsy shops
These are all original handmade items and samples I have made for magazine projects, patterns and classes all at silly prices!!
The sale ends and the shop will close on Jan 1st so be quick!

Me and Kitty LOVE Dancing

Today I'm delighted to unveil the first in a new series of embroidery patterns

Meet Princess Lucy

She's not really a princess but likes to play dress up in her crown with her best friend Kitty

Lucy is inspired by lovely memories of my own sweet auburn haired daughters

When Laura was born her big sister wanted to call her Princess Lucy but we had already decided on a name

But she was always 'Princess Lucy' to Sarah in their cute imaginery games!

The design is stitched in back stitch and straight stitch with French knots on the lace petticoat
I have used a scrap of Liberty fabic to applique the dress - trace the dress shape from the pattern and cut out as a template
Pin this template to the fabric and cut out
Either use fusible web to iron the fabric on or cut slightly bigger and fold over the edges
I have attched mine with tiny running stitches all over the dress to add a bit of texture

Instructions for transferring to light fabrics are included in the pattern
Click HERE if you would like to stitch the design onto a T-Shirt or dark fabric

Me and Kitty LOVE Dancing is available from my Etsy and Craftsy stores

The Winning Collaboration: Steven Sheldon joins Hand & Lock to design the SS15 collection

At the start of 2014 Hand & Lock, the embroidery atelier to the Royal Family and top European design houses announced plans to create a debut fashion.
The project was borne from the notion that many of the design houses using Hand & Lock were
suppressing their design ambitions because of perceived embroidery limitations.
Design houses that did fully embrace embellishment often only applied it to couture pieces rather than streetwear or Pret a Porter.
Hand & Lock’s Production director Jessica Jane Pile felt a collection from Hand & Lock could help inspire a generation of designers to see embroidery in a different light.
Jessica went on to say, “In the last year we have worked on pieces for Mary Katrantzou, Pringle and Louis Vuitton. We are in demand because we have the expertise to take traditional techniques and make them fit contemporary designs. We want to design a collection that takes that to the next level”.
To create the perfect design team Hand & Lock launched a competition for a talented designer to join their ranks. The open competition attracted over a 200 submissions from enthusiasts, students and graduates from the UK and beyond.
The winning designer’s garment had to fit into the rest of the pieces in the collection and had to be an ambitious design that met the brief.
One designer; a graduate of Hudderfield University named Steven Sheldon stood out with his stunning artwork, inventive construction and attention to detail. He was ultimately selected as the winner and invited to meet the Hand & Lock team before commencing work on the collection.
Sheldon who set up his label ‘Sheldon Hall’ with his friend Emma Hall will start by illustrating the full collection in his distinctive croquis style.
His winning design will be made by the experts at Hand & Lock and will join the other pieces for release in time for the September London Fashion Week

Hand & Lock have been producing the world’s finest hand embroidery since 1767. From Civilian and Military Regalia through to Ecclesiastical
and Couture, they specialise in bespoke, individually crafted embroidery.

With Easter just around the corner today's post features my Eggstravaganza embroidery pattern

Available as an instant download from my Etsy and Craftsy stores

This versatile 8 page PDF pattern pack is ideal for all your Spring and Easter projects
The pattern includes 18 Spring floral and Easter related designs which can be used inside the egg shapes or separately

Here I have used the daisy design inside the large egg shape to create an Easter themed hoop picture
The designs are all worked with simple outline stitches

The design has been tinted before stitching to create this lovely shaded effect
Read my Crayon Tinting Tutorial  HERE
Give it a try - it's great fun!

This version also uses the large egg shape but this time I first drew random lines inside the shape and tinted the design with different colours
I outlined the shape with back stitch then used filling stitches to complete
Look out for my next post where I will demonstrate filling stitches in more detail
